Group Meeting #1

Hi blog, today we did our first group meeting in class. In these meetings, we have the opportunity to share our project ideas with classmates.

Here is our initial idea

So, when I explained the idea my partner and I had, which is this girl who is obsessed with the idea of getting perfect grades and being the best academically. The story follows her struggles with trying to be perfect and meet expectations, but she is pushing away her family and friends and not enjoying teenage life. She meets a guy who flips her world around and saves her from drowning herself in her own ambition to be perfect.

Here is the feedback I got:

I mentioned to my classmates to use the idea of showing the two main characters' lives by contrasting them through a split screen, but they thought this idea might get the audience confused about who the main focus is here.

The thought was that it was better to focus on the girl's toxic obsession with being perfect, and at the end, introduce the love interest.

I also mentioned that I wanted to use color to show their emotions, and they think it was a good idea.

What we concluded was that my partner and I needed to figure out how to show a toxic obsession through the screen because we really want to focus on the struggles of meeting expectations, more on the psychological side than the romance. So some ideas the group suggested were:

  • Showing her ichting/ getting anxious before a test
  • Late night homework-work sessions
  • Posters showing a dream school (Harvard, Yale...)
Here is a pic of the meeting :)
