Mise-en-scene Interactive Project

Mise-en-scene Project

The main goal of the project was to make an interactive experience to get into the life of the character. We were required to create a mood board, a description of our character, and the interactive experience, which was completely up to us, but we must include some sort of tactile objects to interact with.

Our character

David Gonzalez is a 48-year-old and is a single father community librarian who uses storytelling to connect with kids. He is helping and thoughtful and has a passion for cooking and movies. He was a 7-year-old daughter and a cat; he tries his best to be the best dad for his daughter by refereeing to parenting books.

The Project:

To do the interactive experience we decided to use a POV video of David working through the library, reading to kids and at the end he gets a call from his daughter and goes home.

For our setting we used his workplace: a Library, to create an interactive experience we pause the video each time David grabbed a book, the video indicated to grab a book from our props and read the small description on the video to see how this object relates to David.

The Presentation:

We organized our elements by having one computer with the video, a second one with the instructions and description of our character, and a third one with the mood board. On the table each object was placed in order as well as labels referring to book 1 book 2 object 3.

The analysis

We chose to portray our character as a friendly community neighbor white man who is nice and genuine but since his wife died, he is struggling to maintain his daughter.

Even though in the project is not shown, we pictured David as short, with glasses, wearing chemises to work and having a cat. All these indicate how we stereotyped David as we see mostly on media. A loving single father who will do anything to make his daughter happy and wants to find a partner after his wife dies years ago.

Reflection:

I think our group did a great job at portraying our character in our interactive experience, many of the other groups did not explore their whole character through their projects so I'll say we found a creative way to do so. However, I do think we could've worked better as a group, there were some things that did not come as planned and a lot of miscommunications happened. At the end I think we could have done better if we organized the tasks in our group with time.
